In the migration from old-style question banks to mod_qbank, if a
question had the same tag from multiple contexts, when it was moved to
its new question bank context, the migration tried to set multiple tag
instances for the same tag to the same context, which caused a unique
key violation.
This add some checking to the
`question_move_question_tags_to_new_context` function to identify any
tag instances to be moved that will trigger this key violation, and
delte any duplicates before the move so we end up with a single instance
of the tag in the new context. This is done in a transaction that will
only be committed once the remaining tags have been moved.
This required adding the `tiuserid` field to the data returned by
`core_tag_tag::get_items_tag` so we can assemble the unique key without
having to do additional queries.
This also extends the test coverage for the `transfer_questions` task
to ensure tags are moved to the new contexts, and tags on stale questions
are deleted.
Users who could not manage activities on a course, but did have
permission to access particular question banks, could not access the
Question banks page.
This modifies the permission checks on that page to allow access if the
user can either manage activities, or has access to at least one
activity that publishes questions. Some additional changes to the output
were required to prevent non-editing users adding banks.
It also modifies the navigation hook to add the Question banks
navigation node if the user can access any activitiy that publishes
questions on the course. This is all based on cached modinfo and
permissions data so should remain performant.
This adds a new "nextversion" field to `question_bank_entries` to track
which version number the next version of the question should have. This
ensures that version numbers are not re-used if the latest version is
deleted.
To use this field, you must call
`\core_question\versions::get_next_version()`. This will initialise the
field to the correct value if it is currently null.
If you create a new version using this value, you must then call
`\core_question\versions::increment_next_version()` to increment the
counter.
- The current context may be necessary when deleting a frontpage block displayed on every page with javascript disabled
- The current context may be necessary when a frontpage block is displayed on every page and the question bank is viewed
- Also handle a NULL currentcontext for question_page_type_list() correctly
On a large site, the task to transfer question categories to the new
mod_qbanks contexts could take a very long time, as of any transferred
categories contain questions using files, each file has to be updated
individually.
This change splits up the transfer into 2 stages. The first stage
(transfer_question_categories) updates the context IDs on each question
category and moves them to their new top category, then spawns an
instance of transfer_questions for each category that was moved.
transfer_questions then handles moving the files and tags for questions
in a single category at a time. This allows the transfer process to be
parallelised by using multi cron or ad-hoc task runners, so should speed
things up on larger sites.
This updates the core_question_search_shared_banks external function
with additional parameters to make it applicable outside of the "Switch
bank" dialogue in the quiz, with the corresponding changes to the
question_banks_datasource Javascript module, and unit test coverage.
It also adds a new \core_question\output\question_category_selector
class for rendering a select list of question categories, migrating
the logic used in qbank_managecategories to a core namespace. There
is a fragment callback for rendering this via AJAX.
When moving question categories during the migration to mod_qbank, set
references using questions in those categories were not updated with the
new context.
Furthermore, since top categories from system, category and course
contexts are deleted and not moved, and set references that filtered
based on a top category were left pointing to a non-existant category.
This change updates set references using the top category to point to
the new top category where its subcategories are moved, and updates set
references for all subcategories to set the new context.
move_question_set_references expected the set reference to use the old
filter format.
This change converts the filter to the new format if required, before
updating the category and context ids.
question_category_delete_safe checks if questions in the category to be
deleted are in use, and if so, saves them to a new qbank instance to
avoid breaking existing quizzes.
However, if the whole course is being deleted, the qbank is created in
the current course as question_category_delete_safe does not know is is
about to be deleted, and the questions are lost when the deletion
occurs.
This change passes down a flag to question_category_delete_safe so it
knows it was called as part of a whole course deletion, and moves saved
questions to the site course instead of the current course.
This has been generated running the following Sniffs, all
them part of the Moodle's CodeSniffer standard:
- PSR12.Functions.ReturnTypeDeclaration
- PSR12.Functions.NullableTypeDeclaration
- moodle.Methods.MethodDeclarationSpacing
- Squiz.Whitespace.ScopeKeywordSpacing
All them are, exclusively, about correct spacing, so the changes
are, all them, only white space changes.
Only exceptions to the above are 3 changes what were setting the
return type in a new line, and, when that happens, the closing
parenthesis (bracket) has to go to the same line than the colon.
It should always be the case that a question category and its parent
category belong to the same context. However, over the years, we have
observed that this becomes violated by some data in some Moodle sites.
(The suspicion is that this is a backup/restor bug of some sort which
has never been tracked down.)
Since this happens, we should make the code robust to it, which is what
this change does. It ensure that when loading child categories, we only
consider ones in the same context.
This fixes lots of stuff like outdated or incomplete PHPdoc comments
or test heler functions where the arguments don't have their types
declared.
A few more significant fixes, like places were a silly method
was used to get a context which was readily available.
When questions are deleted, we now check if the parent is in use before deletion.
Prior to this, it would be possible for multianswer questions to reference
questions that have been deleted. This results in fatal errors when the quiz
is viewed.
This patch uses a dummy 'subquestion_replacement' to handle this case and
display some information to the end user about what has happened so that
they may take action to repair the corrupted question.
As a result of the bug described above, the sequence column of
mdl_question_multianswer can contiain references to questions that no
longer exist, and these IDs can make their way in to backups.
When this happens, the backups cannot be restored. To avoid this,
this patch skips trying to restore those questions that reference
question IDs that no longer exist (as there is no way to recover them).
This commit implements the status change pop up for a question
in the base view. This feature update will allow the change of
status of a question without creating a new version.
This commit also implements the status as a char rather than
an int value.
This commit implements versioning and associated features
in the previewquestion plugin. There have been some major
changes in the random question and version selection for
questions. This commit made those changes as well as added
some more features in the preview for version selection
and adds more behat coverage.
The versioning changes will require some major changes
in the backup and restore of question bank and its
elements. This change introduces those changes to make
it compatible with the new world of versioning in question
bank. This commit also removes quiz_slots fields and
quiz_slot_tags table.
This commit will also introduce the versioning db
structure and some major changes to the quiz
and quiz attempts for the question, random
question and the view.
This commit implements the behat changes for versioning
in core question and associated locations.
This commit adds the changes in questiontype base
to work with new question tables and the new structure in the
databse. Also needed for versioning.
This implementation will also introduct the question status
which allows a question to be in draft and ready status.
I also introduces changes to the base view where it shows
the latest version of the questions. The view of versions
for a question is not implemented in this commit.
This implementation will also introduce changes in the core
qtype plugins to support versioning and the changed
db schema.
Custom fields can now be added to question types.
Site administrators can configure the custom fields and
filed types available. Teachers and question creators can
then use these fields for extra question metadata when
creating questions. Question creators can control if
the fields are displayed to students when they are
taking a quiz or not.
This features uses the core Moodle custom field API.

This implementation will introduce a qbank plugin
"comment" which will allow users with the capability
to comment in a question. It also implements a
callback for the question preview page to view
and add comments from the preview page. Comment
plugin is implemented using the existing comments
API from the core.
